TeekensKarstens hosts Geneva Group (GGI) conference

The Geneva Group, an international joint venture of solicitors, accountants, tax advisors and trust offices, held a conference in Hotel Huis ter Duin (Noordwijk) from 24-27 April 2008. The host of this conference is one of the driving forces behind the Geneva Group: TeekensKarstens Law Firm.

The Geneva Group International (GGI), one of the largest networks in the world, brings together some 225 leading, independent organizations together who are active in the field of legal, fiscal or financial services. The affiliated firms are established in more than 60 countries. Members of the Geneva Group allow their clients to benefit from a knowledge and partnership platform that spans the globe, without having to charge them the overheads normally entailed in such dealings at international level. Apart from through the customary ICT channels, professionals also meet each other in person at regional and international congresses.

TeekensKarstens initiative

Twice a year a large international congress takes place. At the end of October 2008 there was one in Rio de Janeiro, and at the end of April 2008 there was one in Noordwijk. On these occasions, business contacts are consolidated, international cases are gone over and people consult one another on new developments. The selection of Noordwijk as a congress destination is the result of the efforts of Johan F. Langelaar, solicitor at TeekensKarstens, in particular. At the beginning of the 1990s, Langelaar was one of the founders of LawSpan International (LSI). In 2006, LawSpan International joined the Geneva Group. It now makes up the legal division within this entity.

Added value

The ICT of today makes a swift exchange of ideas a very strong possibility. How important is it, then, that people still meet each other in the flesh at a congress? Johan Langelaar: "TeekensKarstens applies the principle of 'big enough to know, small enough to care'. As well as commitment and attention, we deem the human dimension to be of paramount importance. Distance is a factor that matters. This is why TeekensKarstens is also in three locations (Leiden, Lisse and Alphen aan den Rijn) in the Rijnland region. The added value of a congress has to be considered in the same way. Good advice requires personal contact."
